Bagni di Tivoli (lately also called Tivoli Terme) is a small town grown along the old consular road Tiburtina Valeria, 23 km away from downtown Rome . It has been famous since ancient times for the largest thermal pools in Europe , Acque Albule, and the quarries of travertine, a precious hard stone used for Roman buildings, including the Coliseum. Nearby, there are the ruins of Villa Adriana, the gigantic mansion of the emperor Adrian, and the renaissance Villa D'Este with its magnificent playing fountains. In September the weather in Rome is typically warm and pleasant. The highest and lowest temperatures during the day are usually 28 and 20 °C , with with humidity less then 60%. Showers are possible but not frequent.
