TOP LINAC PROJECT STATUS

Revision date: 8 February 2000

Injector: In June 1999 the decision was made  to purchase the a 7 MeV ACCSYS model PL7  injector linac (3 MeV, 2.3 m long  RFQ followed by a  0-4 variable energy, 1.6 m long DTL). The order was placed with the vendor at the end of December 1999 and  the system will be delivered to Italy by December 2000. It is anticipated that this unit will be a standard Model PL-7 system  modified to meet the TOP linac requirements. The injector will have a high current mode for PET isotopes production and a low current mode for proton therapy and radiobiology applications, with a factor of 100 in current variability in the low current mode).  Design studies are now underway for the two beam transport lines from the injector to the SCDTL and to the PET isotope production room.

SCDTL:The copper 11 DTL accelerating tanks and 10 coupling side cavities of the first module (7 - 13.5 MeV energy, 1.5 m length) of the SCDTL structure were built. Currently the structure is under tuning.
